Bobby Lashley revealed his shock when Stone Cold Steve Austin attacked Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23

BOBBY Lashley has revealed how he thought Steve Austin would hit him with a surprise Stone Cold Stunner following his match at WrestleMania 23 – just seconds after Austin had nailed Donald Trump with the iconic move.

Lashley battled Umaga in the match dubbed “The Battle of the Billionaires”, which would see either Donald Trump or WWE owner Vince McMahon have their head shaved bald if their wrestler lost.

Lashley fought for Trump and Umaga fought for McMahon, with Attitude Era legend Stone Cold Steve Austin as guest referee.

After brawling between Trump and McMahon on the outside and a run-in from Shane McMahon, Lashley eventually defeated the “Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga.

But after Vince McMahon had his head shaved by Austin, Trump, and Lashley, Austin nailed the future US president with his trademark Stone Cold Stunner.

Lashley – who was then WWE’s next big thing – escaped unscathed, making him one of the few people to ever stand in the ring with Stone Cold at WrestleMania and not get hit with a Stunner.

I was stood there in front of Stone Cold and I thought, ‘Should I beat him up?’

Speaking exclusively to Sun Sport, Lashley said: “But I thought I was going to be! I’d just defended Trump and was standing there after the match and then – boom! – he gets stunnered.

“I was like, ‘What do I do now?’ None of this was to my knowledge, it just happened.

“I was stood there in front of Stone Cold and I thought, ‘Should I beat him up?’

: Then he throws me a couple of beers and I was like, ‘This is way better than being stunnered!’”

This Sunday Lashley returns to WrestleMania for the first time in 12 years, defending his Intercontinental Championship against Finn Balor’s “Demon” alter-ego.

Much of Lashley’s recent success has been down to his pairing with cocky hype man Lio Rush.

Lashley said: “Lio’s a star and he’s helped me out across the board.

“I actually started following him just after he signed. I liked his matches and liked his promos.

“So when Vince came to me and said, ‘I want to put you with this Lio guy,’ and I just said, ‘That’s phenomenal.’ From there we just started having fun.

“We’ve been together about six months and we’ll be at WrestleMania defending the title. So what we’re able to do by 2020 is going to be huge.”

Lio Rush: “This time last year I was in the stands watching WrestleMania. Now this time I’m on the show with the big man.”

On Raw last Monday Lashley warned Finn Balor that he’s “not scared of Irish fairytales” – and he maintains that he won’t be intimidated when he faces “the Demon” on the grandest stage.
