Burnley want Peter Crouch with Stoke ace set for immediate Premier League return

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has prepared a £500,000 deal to bolster his attack with the Stoke striker before the transfer deadline on August 9.

Dyche wants a forward with top-flight experience to compete with Sam Vokes, Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood up front.

Crouch is 37 but was on Chelsea’s wishlist back in January as they looked for a target man.

Two goals in his final six games of the season was not enough to save Stoke from relegation.

He has a year left on his contract at the Bet365 Stadium — but new Potters boss Gary Rowett will listen to offers after signing Benik Afobe on loan from Wolves.

Meanwhile, Dyche has been left reeling after Nick Pope was ruled out for six months with a shoulder injury.

The England World Cup third-choice suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Europa League draw with Aberdeen.

SunSport can exclusively reveal Pope could miss the first half of the new Premier League season.

But it spells good news for Tom Heaton, who now looks set to return as No 1 after losing his position to Pope last term after suffering his own injury problem.
