Chelsea transfer news: Blues starlet Jake Clarke-Salter joins Vitesse Arnhem on season-long loan deal

The 20-year-old defender joined Sunderland on loan in January, but was powerless in his efforts to help the Black Cats avoid relegation to League One.

Clarke-Salter impressed in his 11 Championship games for the Wearside club, but his performances were not enough to secure him a place in this seasons first team squad.

A statement from the Blues said: "Jake Clarke-Salter has today joined Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan.

"After appearing in our Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest during the first half of last season, the 20-year-old spent the second part of the campaign on loan at Sunderland, making 13 appearances for the Black Cats.

"He now continues his development in the Eredivisie."

While the dynamic youngster also starred for Bristol City during the 2016-17 campaign – chipping in with one goal in 13 games in all competitions.

As well as winning the FA Youth Cup on three occasions, he has also flourished on the international stage for England's youth side's.

He was part of the squad that won the U-20 World Cup last year, while he also helped the Young Lions win the U-21 Toulon Tournament last month.

Clarke-Salter isn't the only academy star to leave Stamford Bridge on loan this summer, with Reece James joining Wigan, while Lewis Baker has signed for Leeds.
