Conor McGregor gives Katie Taylor moral support in Boston as Irishwoman beats Cindy Serrano

The Irish great eased to a points victory to retain her WBA and IBF lightweight titles after all three judges scored the bout 100-90 in her favour at the TD Garden in Boston.

Former Olympic champion Taylor was the dominant aggressor throughout the bout with Serrano and looked for the knockout in the championship rounds, but was unlucky to get it.

The 30-year-old was paid a visit by UFC star McGregor ahead of her 11th outing in the paid ranks.

He said: "This will be my first time to watch you live. I’m very excited, you are incredible for our country, you know that right.

“We’re all with you, you’re a strong woman Kate, I’m here for you Kate, just you."

McGregor then went back to Taylor's dressing room to congratulate her for extending her perfect record, before taking to Instagram to laud one of Ireland's biggest sporting stars.

He added: "What an honour to watch our very own @katie_t86 live tonight in Boston! This lady epitomizes hard work, passion, drive, and laser like focus!

“A motivating inspiration! Congrats Katie and coach @rosstraining!

“Promoter Eddie Hearn and manager Brian Peters you both better be making sure our champion is looked after and guided fairly and correctly up that money tree as her activity is constant and consistent.

“This lady is an asset and should be treated as such.

“We are watching. Great work team Katie! #IrelandChampion."
