David Beckham's Inter Miami humiliated 5-1 by Austin as ex-Premier League stars flop on second game of season

DAVID BECKHAM'S Inter Miami were destroyed 5-1 by Austin in the second game of their Major League Soccer campaign.

The east coast outfit are managed by Beckham's former Manchester United team-mate Phil Neville.

But they followed up a goalless draw against Chicago in their season opener with a dismal display away at Austin.

And among those involved in the dreadful performance were former Newcastle man DeAndre Yedlin and ex-Juventus and Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Sebastian Druissi gave Austin the lead midway through the first half, before Julio Cascante doubled their advantage moments later.

Driussi bagged his second of the game six minutes after half-time as Austin went 3-0 up.

But Higuain then set up Leonardo Campana to pull one back for the visitors in the 53rd minute.

However, it would prove to be merely a consolation as a brace from Austin's Ethan Finley compounded the misery for Beckham, Neville and the Inter Miami fans.

They have now lost six of their last seven away matches – a run which stretches back to last season.

In the 2021 campaign, Inter Miami finished 11th out of 14 teams in the Eastern Conference.

And after two matches this season they are struggling in a similar manner, currently languishing down in 10th – without a win from their opening two games.

Beckham, who founded the team in 2018, is now overseeing their third campaign in the MLS.
