EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Ereck Flowers' time with the New York Giants is about to end.
The team will release Flowers, the franchise's 2015 first round pick, if general manager Dave Gettleman is unable to trade him by Tuesday at 4 p.m., a person familiar with the move confirmed to NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network New Jersey.
ESPN initially reported the news of Flowers' imminent departure from the Giants, who benched him after two games as their starting right tackle in favor of 2017 undrafted free agent Chad Wheeler.
Flowers started for all three of his first seasons in the NFL.
