Irish Champion Stakes: Top filly Magical heads up Ballydoyle 1-2-3 under Ryan Moore

MAGICAL led home a Ballydoyle 1-2-3 with a decisive victory in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

Aidan O'Brien's brilliant filly, who for much of the season has been in the shadow of Enable and Crystal Ocean, dismissed a star-studded field to register a third career Group 1 win.

She was always well-positioned by Ryan Moore, who took a lead off free-wheeling stable companion Hunting Horn.

The field stacked up rounding the home bend, but it was Magical who had the most potent finishing kick and she was in command throughout the final furlong.

Magic Wand and Anthony Van Dyck ran well in second and third to give O'Brien a memorable tricast, with Japanese filly Deirdre a little unlucky in a never-nearer fourth.

Headman fared best of the British challengers in fifth, but this was all about Magical.
