Joe Hart offered escape from Burnley misery by Championship side Preston

North End want a new keeper and are asking neighbours Burnley if they can have the former England No1 who was axed by Sean Dyche.

Boss Alex Neil wants a new man between the sticks and the request has been made after Preston originally enquired about Tom Heaton before his recall at Hart’s expense.

Burnley have three England stoppers on their books, with Nick Pope back to fitness to give Dyche a bigger dilemma.

Hart only joined Burnley from Manchester City at the start of the season and may be allowed to move on once the Clarets see what offers come in for him and Pope.

Preston have just let Chris Maxwell go to Charlton on loan.

They have also looked at Connor Ripley at Middlesbrough as a signing – who he is currently on loan at Accrington.

Earlier this season, City chief Pep Guardiola claimed ending Joe Hart's career at the club was his hardest decision ever.

Pep revealed: "He was so professional. I know how tough it was for the fans, for the people.

"He was an incredible keeper and had incredible results here. That's why it was not an easy decision."
