In case Josh McCown needed any more reminders about the Jets selecting 20-year-old Sam Darnold third overall in Thursday’s draft, daughter Bridget made sure he received the news.
After Gang Green grabbed the highly rated USC product, Bridget texted dear old dad a stat most scouts overlooked.
“He’s less than a year older than me … crazy,” Bridget wrote, to which McCown, 38, replied, “Wow” and “Thanks Bridge.”
McCown posted the exchange Thursday night on Twitter, writing, “Since posting texts is a thing now…. from my oldest daughter after we drafted Sam Darnold…”
The journeyman first signed a one-year, $6 million with the Jets last spring. After beating out Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg for the starting job, McCown’s promising year came to a halt in Week 14, after breaking his left hand. Following his season-ending surgery, McCown was placed on injured reserve in December.
McCown later signed a one-year, $10 million deal in March to remain in New York, where he is expected to serve as a mentor to rookie Darnold.
It’s not the first time his family has poked fun at his journeyman status.
