Katy Collins dead at 32 – Bellator MMA fighter known as the ‘Red Dragon’ dies after brain aneurysm – The Sun
MMA fighter Katy Collins has died at the age of 32 after suffering a brain aneurysm, her coach has confirmed.
Nicknamed the ‘Red Dragon’, Katy fought for several mixed martial arts promotions including Bellator during her three-year career.
The mum-of-two, from Arkansas, US, is understood to have suffered a brain aneurysm last weekend that caused a stroke and seizures.
“The fight is over,” her coach, JT Tilley, wrote on Facebook.
“You never stopped fighting and we never gave up on you. Just wasn’t in the cards.”
“I’ve always been so proud of you Kate,” Tilley wrote.
“I was honoured to be able to live your dream with you… I will miss you more than the world will ever know.”
Katy racked up dozens of fights on the amateur circuit before amassing a 7-5 record in professional cage fighting.
A GoFundMe page had been set up to cover her medical and funeral expenses after she passed away “peacefully” on Wednesday.
“Katy Collins fought as hard as she could,” wrote Sarah Jones, who organized the fundraiser.
“She leaves behind so many loved ones, family and friends who care so much for her. Katy leaves behind two young sons, who will struggle to understand this, like many of us.
“Katy was young and strong and full of life and love.
“Her family will need all the help they can with funeral and medical costs. Any help at all is so appreciated.”
Katy’s sister Kimberly also wrote a tribute on Facebook: “My last update on Kate….. you're my hardest goodbye My Beautiful Sister!”
