Oklahoma freshman point guard Trae Young is headed to New York and will stage a workout for the Knicks on Tuesday in Tarrytown, according to an NBA source.
It is believed to be Young’s first individual workout, as he’s been training in Los Angeles since March 21. The Post reported Young will work out for fewer than a half-dozen teams. Young reportedly also will work out for Orlando, which holds the No. 6 pick and is a popular destination in mock drafts.
Young posted on Instagram the message, “On the way to NYC.” Young could meet with Knicks officials as soon as Monday.
The club holds the ninth pick, but Knicks GM Scott Perry has said moving up a few notches in a trade will be an option explored.
Regarded as the most electric player in the draft, Young led the nation in scoring and assists. He was once projected as a top-three choice, but a late-season swoon hurt his draft stock.
Young defended his defensive aptitude at the draft combine and said he aims to be the top player in the NBA one day. Young has been compared to Stephen Curry.
In an interview with The Post last week, Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger said: “Other guys who are projected higher are those guys who are all rangy, long, big — different-position players. Trae is still projected as the top guard to go. It depends on what the picking team needs.”
