Kongolo on how he can help Huddersfield even more in their relegation fight

Terence Kongolo insists he can improve further after returning to help spark Huddersfield’s revival.

Huddersfield have taken four points from two games to boost their survival fight since Kongolo came back from the hamstring injury, which sidelined him for six weeks.

The club’s £17.5million record signing has shored up the left side of Town’s defence, but claims he feels he is still not yet at his peak following his lay-off.

Kongolo, 24, worked on his fitness during Town’s warm-weather training break in Marbella before Sunday’s return to action at Wolves on Sunday and feels he will get better with games.

“I feel I’m not yet at my best level because I want to play games every week and this injury has stopped me being at the level where I want to be,” said the Dutch World Cup defender.

“I am not at my best level and this is most important. I try to be fit and make big steps, but I’m not at my best level yet.

“There is more to come and I have to show every week that I can improve.”

Kongolo has the kind of Terriers’ spirit David Wagner loves in players and the former Monaco defender says he has a solider’s fighting mentality.

“When I get on the pitch I never give up, not until the last minute,” he said.

“When I was young I watched documentaries about sporting legends, so the soldier is in me.”
