Man United extend David De Gea’s contract but he could still quit the club

Jose Mourinho and Co have taken up the Spanish No1's option for a one-year extension but the man himself has demands.

De Gea, 28, wants £350,000-a-week starting from 2020-21 otherwise he will stick with the plan of leaving Old Trafford.

The Spaniard was expected to be tied into the new contract, with the club ensuring they don't lose him for nothing.

All United may have done is bought some time to sell the in-demand De Gea while his price is still high.

However, if recent reports are to be believed, De Gea could be talking into staying for a massive pay-rise, after being convinced by fans and girlfriend, Edurne.

De Gea wants a five-year deal following this one-year extension which would effectively bring him to the end of his career.

But the Spaniard is insistent that he be on par with the club's highest earners.

De Gea put in yet another stunning performance to bail United out in the 1-0 win over Young Boys on Tuesday – only furthering his reputation as the best on the planet.

The stopper has been stalling on a deal for months now, as the likes of Paris Saint-Germain circle.

Real Madrid had been chasing the star for years – only missing out on one occasion due to a fax machine error.

However they are no longer in the running having finally given up to United's stubbornness and signed ex-Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois instead.

While not set in stone that De Gea will stay, they will be boosted by the fact Edurne wants to stay in Manchester.

The pair lived apart while dating for eight years, but she decided to make the move this year to be closer to her partner.

Edurne once stated Manchester was "uglier than the back of the fridge", but she believes that it was the right move for them both.
