Man United ‘set to begin talks with French side’ over transfer of defender

Manchester United are set to begin talks with Monaco over the ‘imminent transfer’ of defender Djibril Sidibe.

That is according to French outlet Le 10 Sport, who say Sidibe fits the bill of the new full-back Jose Mourinho is looking for.

Matteo Darian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw are all set to depart Old Trafford this summer as Mourinho looks to overhaul the edges of his backline.

United and Monaco will reportedly commence talks over the next 24 hours with the Red Devils keen on securing the services of the 25-year-old before the World Cup.

Monaco will apparently demand in excess of the £52million they received from Manchester City for Benjamin Mendy last summer.

Mourinho ends Conte feud

Jose Mourinho claims he has ended his war of words with bitter rival Antonio Conte — but reopened old wounds with some of the Class of ’92.

Managers Mourinho and Conte have had a running verbal battle this season, which has given an extra edge to Saturday’s FA Cup final between their Manchester United and Chelsea sides.

But ahead of the Wembley showdown, Mourinho claimed he made peace with one of his Stamford Bridge successors when United beat the Blues 2-1 at Old Trafford in February, by inviting the Italian into his office afterwards.

Asked about his relationship with Conte, Mourinho said: “It’s okay. It’s okay. He stretched out, I stretched. We got bored."

Cole: United should learn from Liverpool on Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku could bag 40 goals a season if Manchester United played to his strengths, according to former Reds striker Andy Cole.

Lukaku , who is set to return for United in Saturday’s FA Cup final against former club Chelsea, has scored 27 goals in his debut season following his £75million switch from Everton.

But former United striker Cole is convinced the Belgium international could get the same kind of goal return as Liverpool’s Mo Salah – who has 43 this season – if Jose Mourinho’s side played to his full strengths.

“Lukaku’s had a massive season,” said Cole. “He’s been consistent and he’s not had the opportunity to have much rest, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being injured and then moving on.

“So this season he’s done really well to get 27 goals, in a team that doesn’t create many chances. But I still don’t believe, when I watch him play, that he’s actually playing to his strengths.

“If you look at the way he played at Everton, to the way he plays now, it’s totally different."
