    Martial Injury Flaw

Anthony Martial is under orders from Erik ten Hag to work on keeping himself fit.

The injury-prone French forward, 27, has only played in 13 of Man United's 30 games this season – and is yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

The Red Devils boss said: "He has to work on that – he has to be more available. Sometimes you don't know what the reason behind it is but when he is there, he is really important for us because we play our best football when he is available.

"He has to be aware of that. If we want to be successful, we need him."

    Simply the Best

Erik ten Hag has praised Rashford for playing the "best" football at Man United – and urged him to stay put.

The club are in negotiations with the in-form forward amid transfer links to PSG.

And ten Hag said: "I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first, but also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football.

"He’s improving and that’s about him because he’s working on the good things, he’s giving 100 per cent energy in it, he has a good plan and I think also, in this team, he can bring in his qualities.

“I think he knows that but definitely he’s important for us and if we want to get the success we want, we need him.”

    Good morning Man Utd fans

Manchester United take on Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-finals tonight at the City Ground.

United boss Erik ten Hag will have Casemiro back from a suspension that didn't allow him to play against Arsenal.

But Anthony Martial (leg), Diogo Dalot (thigh), Donny van de Beek (knee) and Axel Tuanzebe (back) are ruled out, while Jadon Sancho is uncertain amid some ongoing fitness issues.

Forest manager Steve Cooper, on the other hand, will be without Dean Henderson who plays on loan from United.

Henderson is sidelined with a thigh injury but would have been ineligible to face his parent club anyway.

Omar Richards (fractured leg), Giulian Biancone (knee), Jesse Lingard (hamstring) and Cheikhou Kouyate (hamstring) are also out.

Meanwhile, Tottenham superstar Harry Kane expects to begin talks over a new contract in the coming months amid United links.

But Kane, who equalled Jimmy Greaves’ Spurs record of 266 goals against Fulham on Monday, hopes manager Antonio Conte will also extend his stay in North London.

The striker has 18 months left on his current deal, while the Red Devils and Bayern Munich are eyeing the 29-year-old, who would need to be convinced to stay amid the ongoing trophy drought.

Asked about his contract situation, Kane said: “I’m sure there will be conversations over the coming months. But to be honest I’m just focused on this season and doing my best for the team.

“There’s still a lot to play for, trying to get in the Champions League, we have the FA Cup and the Champions League still to win. My focus is on that.

“I know there’s going to be rumours, a lot of talk and speculation about my future but I’m just focused on what I can do.”

But Kane is reportedly “open” to signing a new contract in North London despite interest from United.

According to The Athletic, the England captain will consider signing an extension if the “circumstances are right”.

The report adds that Spurs’ fortunes for the remainder of the season could prove key in his final decision.

Finally, United are set for a complete takeover when the Glazers sell the club.

The unpopular chiefs revealed in November that they were willing to listen to offers for either a stake in the Premier League giants or an outright purchase.

According to The Mail, the Americans see more appeal in selling the club as opposed to offloading a percentage stake.

Substantial investment is thought to be needed for renovations at Old Trafford and the training ground.

Some believed this would deter new owners from coming forward, but that has not been the case.

    Man Utd eye Roma midfielder

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been offered the chance to sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Giallorossi are insisting on a fee in the region of £35million for Zaniolo, who has less than 18 months remaining on his contract.

Tottenham and Newcastle have both registered an interest in the forward as they bid to strengthen in the final third.

However, AreaNapoli report that the Italy international has been offered to the likes of United and PSG in recent weeks

    Ronaldo and Mendes breakup

Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo demanded super agent Jorge Mendes secure him a move to either Bayern Munich or Chelsea last summer before he left Manchester United.

That was before the potential deals collapsed after both Bayern and the Blues were alarmed Ronaldo had missed the start of pre-season training.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner split from Mendes last year, with the final straw in their longstanding relationship coming when he conducted his controversial interview.

According to El Mundo, the forward issued the agent with an ultimatum last summer as he desperately sought a move away from United.

"Bayern, Chelsea or we break up," the Portugal captain demanded, with the command coming "after Jorge Mendes expressed to Cristiano his disagreement with many of his decisions in recent years, the first being to leave Real Madrid"

    What the Dec?

West Ham star and Manchester United target Declan Rice plans to stick with the No41 shirt throughout his career despite it being randomly handed to him when he was in the club’s academy.

Last year, in an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap, Rice said: “It was just the number I was given in the academy by the kitman.

“When you are in the Under-23s there are the first team squad numbers and then it gets to the higher numbers and I was given 41 when I went to Seattle on my first trip with the first team. I was just given 41 and it has stayed with me since.

“And to be honest with you – I have been having these conversations with my dad – regardless of what happens in my career I may stay with 41.

“I just think Rice 41 has a nice ring to it and obviously I have grown up playing in it and I am a bit superstitious with things like that. I don’t know if I change to a new number if it will hamper my performances, I don’t know! Sometimes I think about things like that”

    Cristiano Ronaldo practices

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr with a list of "best practices" following his acrimonious departure from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, 37, made his competitive debut for the Saudi Arabian giants on Sunday against Ettifaq.

According to ESPN, Al-Nassr are keen to utilise the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to help them improve off the field.

This led the Portugal captain to arrive with a "list of best practices" which the club are now attempting to implement.

The Saudis hope these changes will enable them to become a "powerhouse of Saudi and Asian football".

It comes after the star forward was heavily critical of United's off-pitch standards prior to his exit at the end of last year

    Osimhen deal under investigation

Napoli's signing of Manchester United target Victor Osimhen is set to be investigated by Italian authorities.

The Partenopei landed Osimhen from Lille in 2020 for a fee that could reach £70million, including add-ons.

Juventus were slapped with a 15-point deduction last week after being accused of inflating transfer fees in dealings with other Italian clubs over three seasons to create millions in "capital gains" for tax purposes.

According to Il Mattino, authorities now want to take a closer look at Napoli's dealings.

Under the microscope will be their signing of the striker, although the Naples prosecutor will require six months to complete their probe.

In particular, investigators will consider the potential falsification of the respective financial documents

    Harry Kane U-turn

Tottenham superstar Harry Kane is “open” to signing a new contract in North London despite interest from Manchester United.

Kane is about to enter the final year of his current deal, which has raised concerns over his future at his boyhood club.

Spurs’ worrying form, which currently has them in serious danger of missing out on the top four, isn’t likely to help their case for the striker to stay.

But The Athletic claim that the 29-year-old will consider signing an extension if the “circumstances are right”.

The report adds that Tottenham’s fortunes for the remainder of the season could prove key in the England captain's decision though

    Petit on Ten Hag

Emmanuel Petit praised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's work at Old Trafford and the way he dealt with Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Harry Maguire.

Petit told SportingPost: "Over the last 10 years since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, they have been changing managers all the time and for any reason. When he took over he found some opposition in the dressing room. It’s not easy to manage Cristiano Ronaldo, nor to put the captain Harry Maguire on the bench. He made the right decisions and look where they are now. They are getting back to where they should be and it’s been so long since we’ve seen a competitive Manchester United.

"Now you can see a strategy in the team, Ten Hag’s vision too. I was sitting close to him on Sunday and you can see his commitment. He’s a real competitor. You can see he is ruthless with his players and I think this is the way you have to be as manager. You’re not there to please your players, you are there to win games.

"You’re not there to let players play because they are big names, you need players to earn their place, whatever personal accolades you have. Now I think everybody agrees he made the right decisions with Ronaldo and Maguire.

"I’m not 100% convinced by some of the players he bought – especially Antony, I think he was disappointing yesterday and got some stick from the Arsenal fans when he left the pitch. He looked miserable on the bench when he got taken off. You could feel the pressure on his shoulders. I think he’s losing confidence like [Jadon] Sancho and it’s the role of the manager, his teammates and the club to help him come back to his best because I think they are losing him"

    Sheringham's Kane advice

Manchester United hero Teddy Sheringham has urged his old club to go after Tottenham superstar Harry Kane.

Kane only has 18 months left on his current deal with Spurs, where Sheringham also played, and is weighing up his options.

The former striker told talkSPORT: “Harry Kane would be an unbelievable acquisition for Manchester United. I think he would be the perfect solution.

“He’s got to make that decision. I made a big decision when I decided to leave Tottenham because I didn’t like the ambition at the time. Harry has to assess that situation himself”

    Saka had Shaw in "chokehold"

Rio Ferdinand says Luke Shaw looked “so apprehensive” against Bukayo Saka in Manchester United’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal on Sunday, saying the defender was put “in a chokehold” by his countryman.

Speaking on YouTube channel Vibe with Five, he said: “[Saka is the] first player I have seen this season who had Luke Shaw in a chokehold. I said at one point, Luke Shaw does not want to get close.

“I know that feeling when you have someone who is quick and can go both ways, outside or inside, who is rapid and will take the opportunity should you give it to him. He looked like a man who was so apprehensive… I would have shown him down the line.

“I would have never shown him inside. It was probably a mistake from Shaw, who has been excellent this season by the way. I already thought it anyway. But a big game, big stakes, Saka said 'I am the guy'. I loved seeing it even from a Manchester United point of view.”

    QSI eye Man Utd takeover

Qatar Sports Investments [QSI] are interested in purchasing a minority stake in Manchester United after Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi held talks with Tottenham’s Daniel Levy.

Manchester United were put up for sale last year, with the Glazers seeking ‘strategic’ investment that could be a minority stake of a full sale.

With United looking likely to finish in the top four, QSI would have to sell Paris Saint-Germain in order to acquire full control of Manchester United.

Though they are looking at selling off around 15% of the club, QSI remain committed to the Ligue 1 giants.

Therefore, QSI are looking at acquiring a minority stake in Manchester United and have made it clear they are interested in becoming part owners.

    Neville identifies area to improve

Gary Neville believes Manchester United's attackers need to be as good defensively as they are offensively.

Neville said on Sky Sports: "For me, the job of a United coach is to pick the best attacking players, but also for those attacking players out of possession to be really good defensively.

"City have done that for five years, Liverpool have done that for five years, Arsenal out of possession yesterday they were getting back into a really compact shape where the two wide players were tucked in. Manchester United’s wide players and their midfield players have got to be more compact in big games.

"They are talented, Antony, Rashford, Eriksen and Fernandes and other than that they’ve got defensive players like Fred, McTominay, Casemiro – we don’t want that. We want the most attacking players in and for them to get more compact and wise of how to defend in big matches."

    United to let pair leave

Manchester United are prepared to let two current first-team players leave the club in the summer, according to talkSPORT.

United are reportedly willing to allow Maguire and McTominay to exit Old Trafford this summer.

It is claimed that Ten Hag still sees both as valuable squad players this season, despite their relative lack of game time when compared to previous seasons.

United also need to sell players before they can purchase them, in order to ensure compliance with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, but with little time remaining in the January window, it would be difficult to source a replacement before the end of the month.

    Ten Hag wants defensive improvement

Erik ten Hag has told his Manchester United players to learn the lesson of their painful defeat at Arsenal as he tries to deliver a first trophy in six years.

He said: "In general, against Arsenal we defended very well.

"They didn't get clean shots, was one time from free kick. There was a lot of defence between the ball and the goal.

"We left it behind. We said the right conclusions, then we have to move forward and quickly because tomorrow is a big game and focus on that."

    Merson tips Kane to United

Paul Merson says Manchester United should try to sign Harry Kane as soon as possible if they want to have any chance of winning the Premier League.

"Is Harry Kane going to go for individual records or is he going to go for medals? I don’t see him winning anything at Tottenham.

"He’s going to beat Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring record, which is a phenomenal feat. He’s got a chance of beating Alan Shearer’s Premier League record at Tottenham.

"He's the best centre-forward in the world. If I’m Manchester United, I’m spending £100m on Kane tomorrow. They just paid £80m for Antony and he won’t score as many goals in 10 years as Kane would score in a season for Man Utd."
