Manchester City owner Khaldoon Al Mubarak believes ‘relentless’ Pep Guardiola can take club to even greater heights
The champions smashed a host of Premier League records and reached 100 points on the final day of the season.
But the Etihad chairman says there is no chance of the manager taking his foot off the pedal now.
Khaldoon said: “We have a manager in Pep who is relentless. There is not going to be any content or relaxation here, that I can assure you.
“This is a young squad. Many of our most talented players are under the age of 26.
“My expectation, and the manager’s expectation, is that this team will continue to improve.
“We’ve worked very hard over the last couple of years to build the squad, not just only for this season but for many seasons to come.”
Owner Sheikh Mansour is willing to back his manager in the transfer market with a couple of new faces this summer.

But Khaldoon and Guardiola are both convinced this young City squad will improve — and that could spell bad news for their Premier League rivals.
City have fallen way short in their previous two attempts to defend the title but will hope this time can be different.
Khaldoon says they have learnt their lessons from the past and have the desire to do it all again.
He added: “We have real experiences, real learnings from how we managed our seasons following the last two times we won the league.
“I have no doubt that this summer we are going to come back and be hungry — and be more aggressive — and we’ll continue to grow and improve.”
City are hot favourites to land Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer — but he could be one of only two new faces. They will also look for a new forward after going in for Alexis Sanchez and Riyad Mahrez in the last two windows.
The champions made mistakes with their recruitment after winning the title in 2012, and again in 2014, and will choose their targets more carefully this time.
Khaldoon, 43, said: “Today we have a superb, high-quality squad. You don’t get to 100 points without a full high-quality squad, which is what we have.
“Any additions have to improve the squad. This is my biggest learning from the years of chairing this club.
“When winning, bringing new players in is a very important decision because you have a winning formula that’s just won. Whatever you’re going to add has to be a decision you don’t take very lightly at all.
“You have to bring in players that will strengthen, improve and add competition into the squad.”
Guardiola handed the club a major boost by penning a new three-year contract this week — which keeps him in charge at the Etihad until 2021.
And Khaldoon revealed it was ‘easy’ to persuade Guardiola to extend his stay in Manchester by a further two years.
If he sees out the deal, he will have been at City for longer than he was at the helm of either of his previous clubs, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Khaldoon said the manager’s relationship with owner Sheikh Mansour and other personnel at the club made it straightforward.
He said: “It was not a hard discussion. This was, frankly, a conversation that was relatively easy.
“I think we see eye-to-eye, we shook hands on it and are happy to continue this journey.
“Pep has been a joy to work with. From the owner, his Highness Sheikh Mansour, he’s built a fantastic relationship with everyone.”
