Mo Salah reveals his goal and assist targets for season but Liverpool star will need red-hot finish to achieve tallies

MO SALAH reveals he aimed to score 40 goals for Liverpool this season after helping the Reds into the Champions League final.

Liverpool survived a scare against Villarreal after conceding their 2-0 aggregate lead in the first half of last night's second leg, before producing a brilliant comeback to win 3-2 in Spain.

Salah produced his 15th assist of the season for the first goal, scored by Fabinho, but failed to get on the scoresheet himself.

The forward has 30 goals for the Reds and two for Egypt this season but his form has declined recently, scoring just three goals in his last 15 Liverpool matches.

That means he needs an extraordinary run of ten goals in the last six games to achieve his target – if he achieves that Liverpool will likely pick up more silverware.

Salah said: "I set myself targets always – for myself and the team.

"I said at the start of the season I would go for 40 goals and ten or 15 assists so I need to focus on the goals more! I’m going to go for everything. I’m in top form and the team is doing unbelievable."

Salah was also asked about who he wants to play against in the Champions League final and whether the quadruple is now the target for him and his team-mates.

The Egyptian answered: "For sure. Maybe not at the start of the season because we’re always focused on the Champions League and the Premier League. But why not?

"I want to play Madrid. It's personal. City is a really tough team. Personally, I would prefer Madrid because we lost in the final so I want to play against them and hopefully win it from them."
