Pep Guardiola is prepared to put Manchester City’s fat chequebook away, despite only spending £60million this summer, writes David Anderson in Chicago.
Guardiola claims he is largely satisfied with his squad, even though he has only signed Riyad Mahrez.
His top midfield target Jorginho snubbed City to join Chelsea and the Blues boss feels he already has enough cover in that position in his squad.
City had looked at Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic and Southampton’s Mario Lemina and had been linked recently with Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara and Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic.
But it is understood they will not be making another big-name signing.
French whizkid Claudio Gomes will join from Paris Saint Germain on Monday when he turns 18 and Guardiola says he and Brazilian Douglas Luiz could step up.
“We are the same players except for one person, Mr Toure, who has gone,” said Guardiola.
“We’ll decide on the last day. We will see what happens in these games. We have solutions.
“We have Dinho [Fernandinho], [Ilkay] Gundogan, Alex [Zinchenko] can play in that position, Fabian Delph.
“We have young players who can play in that position. We have Douglas Luiz, Claudio Gomes, so we’ll see.”
