Pepe Reina has emerged as a prime candidate to replace Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri eager to work with the Spaniard again.
The pair linked up at Naples to great effect with the former Liverpool star leaving the San Paolo as well after his contract expired. A move to AC Milan on a free quickly followed.
Though that is thought to not be a road block in the pair reuniting in London, report the Sun, leaving Sarri able to swoop for one of his former players – a luxury unlikely to be afforded to him in the near future, at least those under contract, following an agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis after the compensation package and transfer fee for Jorginho was ratified.
Reina will cost £9m and his ease at playing the ball out from the back will help ease the transition of Sarri-ball after two years of Antonio Conte.
Real Madrid are expected to sign Courtois, with the Belgian’s contract set to expire next summer.
