Player ratings as Barcelona’s unbeaten run comes to an end in nine-goal thriller
Barcelona’s hopes of an unbeaten LaLiga campaign were ended in their penultimate game as they lost 5-4 at Levante.
The champions had gone 36 matches unbeaten but trailed 5-1 after 56 minutes and their dramatic fightback came up short.
Emmanuel Boateng’s treble and Enis Bardhi’s brace put lowly Levante in charge, and despite Philippe Coutinho completing his hat-trick and Luis Suarez scoring a penalty, Barca’s bid for history came up short.
So who impressed? And who flopped?
Here are Rik Sharma’s player ratings…
Marc-Andre ter Stegen 6
Despite letting in five goals, the German didn’t really do anything wrong. Let down by those ahead of him.
Nelson Semedo 4
The Portuguese right-back lacked positional discipline and should have done better for Boateng’s second.
Yerry Mina 3
A lamentable performance from the Colombian which showed exactly why Valverde hadn’t trusted him to this point.
Thomas Vermaelen 4
Shaky start to the game and then went off with a hamstring injury after half-an-hour.
Jordi Alba 4
Limp in defence and even going forward was inaccurate with his delivery.
Sergio Busquets 5
Looks tired and played like it, earned Barcelona a penalty when brought down at a corner.
Ivan Rakitic 4
Gave the ball away far too often and was sloppy in midfield as Levante danced around him.
Andres Iniesta 5
The captain’s last La Liga away game will be one he never forgets, but sadly for the wrong reasons. Ineffectual.
Ousmane Dembele 4
Slack with the ball and did not track back effectively either, before he was replaced.
Luis Suarez 5
Fired home his penalty well but otherwise a terrible display from the Uruguayan forward.
Philippe Coutinho 8
Barcelona’s best player, the Brazilian playmaker netted a hat-trick and can leave with his head held high.
Gerard Pique 6
Added drive and passion as he tried to defend Barca’s unbeaten record, though he too was loose at the back.
Paco Alcacer 5
Brought on to try and pull Barca level but he was invisible.
Denis Suarez 6
Helped Barcelona use the ball more effectively and control possession, though ultimately it came to nothing.
Olazabal 5, Coke 6, Postigo 6, Pier 6, Luna 7, Morales 8, Lukic 6, Campana 7, Bardhi 9, Marti 7, Boateng 9.
