Raptors fire Dwane Casey in NBA stunner

Being Coach of the Year isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

The Raptors fired head coach Dwane Casey on Friday days after he won the annual award, according to an ESPN.com report.

Casey led the Raptors to impressive regular season heights, including the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this season, but that failed to translate into the postseason. And mostly he could not get the Raptors past LeBron James’ Cavaliers, who eliminated Toronto the past three seasons.

This year’s defeat was particularly humbling with this Cavaliers roster seen as its weakest in recent years and with the Raptors coming off a 59-win regular season. But the Cavaliers swept the series after a demoralizing Game 1 comeback win sunk Toronto.

Casey won at least 48 games the past five seasons and finished his run in Toronto 320-238.
