Ryder Cup 2018 day one: Europe make history as they win all their foursomes matches for first time ever

Thomas Bjorn's side recovered from their 3-1 morning fourballs defeat to lead 5-3 at the end of day one at Le Golf National.

Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose beat Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler 3&2.

Rory McIlroy recovered from a nightmare fourballs showing to combine with Ian Poulter and beat Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson 4&2.

Wildcard Sergio Garcia justified his pick as he teamed with rookie Alex Noren to annihilate Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau 5&4.

Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood – the only duo to win in the morning – continued their hot streak to take out Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth 5&4.

Skipper Bjorn said: "We are a team and we do it with all 12. That was the plan through the whole week.

"This was a wonderful afternoon. We go home with a good taste in our mouths."

More to follow.
