Samcro confirmed for Fighting Fifth smash-up with Buveur D'Air despite being on the drift

Bookies William Hill sent out a statement at 10.45am indicating they had suspended the market but punters could get back to weekend punting an hour later.

Sun Racing's Matt Chapman weighed in on the debate as he tweeted: "Despite the rumours – @gelliott_racing tells me @AtTheRaces Samcro WILL run @NewcastleRaces Saturday. Yeeehaaa!"

Elliott later said: "He definitely runs at Newcastle."

Samcro had been as short as 6-4 last night for the Grade 1 contest but can now be backed at 2-1. Market leader Buveur D'Air is now as short as 8-11.

Nicky Henderson's champion hurdler is set to make his first start since bagging his second Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

The presence of Samcro makes for an exciting contest although Gordon Elliott's hurdler has plenty to prove.

Elliott's six-year-old was disappointing when beaten by Bedrock on his seasonal reappearance and had been set to run in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown.

However, Samcro was pulled from that contest due to the ground being too quick but with plenty of rain about in Newcastle conditions should be right up his street this Saturday.
