Team Europe swept Team USA on Friday afternoon in the Ryder Cup, and the Americans continued to struggle at Le Golf National on Saturday morning. Jim Furyk opted to field the same four lineups that went 3-1 in Friday four-ball, but as the four matches made it to the back nine, Team Europe held commanding leads in three of them.
The duo of Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy never trailed all day and led the American team of Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka by four holes with seven to play – but Team USA engineered a late comeback. A Koepka birdie at No. 14 cut the deficit, and Tony Finau made back-to-back birdies at 15 and 16 to pull the Americans within one with two holes remaining.
