Sheffield United close the gap to Championship leaders Norwich to just three points

NORWICH lost ground in their bid to clinch the Championship title – as they dropped points at home to Stoke and Sheffield United battered Hull.

Onel Hernandez gave Norwich the perfect start as they aimed to gain promotion as early as today.

He scored in the 24th-minute, only for that to be cancelled out by an Ashley Williams goal moments after half-time.

Teemu Pukki put the Canaries ahead once more in the 66th-minute – only for Tom Edwards to pull Stoke level for a second time just two minutes later.

Elsewhere, David McGoldrick got Sheffield United off to a flyer as they stormed to a 3-0 victory away to Hull.

McGoldrick scored twice in the opening 22 minutes – as fans of both clubs brawled in the stands.

DERBY DRAMA

Enda Stevens then made it 3-0 just before half-time to all-but kill-off the game and close the gap on Norwich to just three points with two games to play.

Meanwhile, Derby scored a 94th-minute penalty and a 101st-minute second to gain ground on the play-off spots in their nervy 1-0 win over QPR.

Harry Wilson scored both as play-off rivals Bristol City and Middlesbrough both lost – 2-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday and 3-0 away to Nottingham Forest respectively.

At the other end of the table, Rotherham failed to capitalise on Millwall losing to Aston Villa earlier in the day with a loss of their own.
