Thursday's horse racing NAP: Your best bet for today's ITV racing from Callum Jamieson
DAY THREE of the Craven is not as glamorous as the others but I've narrowed down the shortlist to two on Thursday.
The ground continues to quicken and should play into the hands of my pick.
BERINGER (Newmarket, 3.35) will be a popular play with punters.
He was an obvious eye-catcher from the Lincoln, and despite that form getting a couple of knocks in the Spring Cup since, it tends to throw up a few progressive types.
Beringer was forced to travel wide and came from miles back to finish a decent dead-heat third.
Fellow third Breden reopposes here. But the race was run to suit the veteran and Beringer should improve for his comeback effort.
Alan King's four-year-old is a strong traveller and the drop to a stiff mile could be the making of him this season.
He's run well over the Rowley Mile before and form behind the likes of Communique and Wissahickon is standout in this heat.
Elsewhere on Thursday…
Staying at Newmarket, GAME PLAYER (4.45) looks interesting for the flying Roger Varian.
He runs out the handicap, but when the penny dropped at the end of last season he quickly progressed.
It's exactly the type of horse Varian's patient approach usually pays dividends with and fingers-crossed opens up an each-way price.
