Tottenham among EIGHT Premier League clubs to send scouts to watch Bolton prodigy Luca Connell
LUCA CONNELL will be watched by EIGHT Premier League clubs this weekend at Derby.
The Bolton Wanderers midfielder has sparked a flood of requests for top-flight representatives to see the teenager at Pride Park.
Wolves and Everton are among the clubs impressed by the 17-year-old, who plays for Republic of Ireland Under-18s but qualifies for England.
Southampton and Brighton had bids rejected in January, while Tottenham, Watford and Leeds have tracked his progress after making the step up to senior football.
The Liverpool-born scholar has caught the eye since making his debut in January and keeping his place in Phil Parkinson’s plans.
He started at left wing-back when he first broke into the team but is seen as a central midfielder going forward.
Connell has also played full-back for Ireland’s youth sides but can still switch countries.
Speaking about breaking into the Trotters' first-team, Connell told the Bolton News: "I have been here since I was a young boy and it’s what you dream of.
"When you walk into training and see the older ones – even the Under-18s – you think ‘I want to be playing there.’ But then when you are at my age now and playing first team football it’s a dream come true.
"I can’t thank the fans enough for how they have taken to me.
"It isn’t easy for the gaffer to just throw a youngster into the current position we find ourselves in.
"I have to thank him but the fans have really taken to me – giving me a song already, even – and they have been a great part of the journey so far."
