Tottenham and Newcastle stars in huge row with three players booked after Bentancur and Saint-Maximin butt heads

THREE players were booked after a fiery clash broke out between Tottenham and Newcastle during their clash in North London.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Allan Saint-Maximin were battling for the ball on the far touchline as the first half drew to a close.

But when it went out of play the pair then squared up to one another and butted heads as tempers began to flare.

Saint-Maximin's team-mate Joelinton then came over and pushed Bentancur as a melay ensued.

Spurs defender Emerson Royal was also in the thick of it, with referee Martin Atkinson left to sort out the punishments.

He decided to book Saint-Maximin, Bentancur and Joelinton but all three escaped a red card.

As the players then made their way down the tunnel at half-time, Spurs' technical director Fabio Paratici was seen berating the fourth official.

The incident came just a few minutes after both sides found the back of the net in a frantic period of the match.

Fabian Schar gave Eddie Howe's men a surprise lead, catching Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris out with a clever free-kick.

But just four minutes later Antonio Conte's men were level.

Spurs are looking to maintain their top four challenge with a third straight victory against Newcastle.

The North London outfit will move level on points with Arsenal if they can pick up all three points on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Newcastle now appear to be safe from Premier League relegation as they sit 10 points clear of the drop zone.
