Vertonghen’s black eye needs urgent treatment on pitch as Spurs suffer injury woes at Brighton – The Sun
TOTTENHAM defender Jan Vertonghen suffered yet more black eye ignominy with a fresh smack to the face against Brighton on Saturday.
After picking up a shiner in training – not, as some thought, relating to a bizarre affair allegation – the Belgian required treatment again at the AmEx.
A clash of heads with Neal Maupay early on in the lunchtime kick-off left Vertonghen clutching his face.
And TV cameras picked up the nasty looking bruise as Tottenham physios attended to it.
Only days earlier, the centre-back was given a black eye in an innocent training ground incident.
Christian Eriksen had accidentally collided with Vertonghen and rumours emerged that it was actually the result of a bust-up over alleged infidelity between the defender and Eriksen's wife Sabrina Kvist.
That notion was instantly dismissed by the Dane, who tweeted that it was "bulls**t".
Luckily for Spurs, Vertonghen continued after treatment as their injury woes mounted in Brighton.
Hugo Lloris suffered a horror elbow injury while falling into his goal in the first couple of minutes.
Not only did the goalkeeper require oxygen as he was stretchered off, Maupay mopped up the rebound to put the hosts ahead.
Spurs are already without Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso due to injury problems with crucial ties versus Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool and Everton on the horizon.
