Wayne Rooney takes Coleen and the kids to Disneyland ahead of moving to America to play for DC United

The 32-year-old is surplus to requirements at his beloved Everton and has opted to move to the MLS to continue his career.

New boss Marco Silva will not stand in his way as he looks to trim his squad and the wage bill.

Rooney, who spent the weekend at Disneyland Paris with wife Coleen and children Klay, 9,Kai, 5 and Kit, 2, has been granted a work permit and visa.

Sportsmail say the former England skipper is set to make his debut for the MLS strugglers against Vancouver Whitecaps on July 14 when DC United open their new £140million 20,000-seat Audi Field stadium.

Rooney had another year at the Toffees, and after months of talks, his agent Paul Stretford has hammered out a deal until 2020 worth £12.5m ending his 16-year Premier League stint.

He has already said his goodbyes on Merseyside and will be on America’s East Coast by the end of the week to meet his new team-mates.

The forward was in Washington last month to meet the club’s top brass and look around the new stadium.

He was then pictured collecting the relevant paperwork required to complete his move at the US Consulate in Belfast earlier this month.

Rooney finished as the Toffees' top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions, but appeared to fall out of favour with former boss Sam Allardyce towards the end of a largely disappointing campaign.

Hs new side will need all his goals and experience as boss Ben Olsen’s side are rock bottom of the Eastern Conference, winning just two out of 14 games.
