Why is Leicester vs Tottenham at 7.45pm and are there other Saturday Premier League games kicking off late this season?

Spurs will be hoping to remain ahead of their London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea – but why are they kicking off so late on a Saturday?

Why is kick off at 7.45pm?

Leicester City vs Tottenham will kick off at 7.45pm.

This is despite games already on at 12.30pm and the normal late time of 5.30pm.

While there are plans to make the time slot a regular occurrence to increase the amount for television rights – the two will clash late as Tottenham have a Champions League fixture on Tuesday.

This allows Spurs the extra day to prepare for their crunch match against Barcelona with elimination a possibility.

What other games will kick off at 7.45pm on Saturday?

Tottenham have already played at this time slot this season, facing Wolves on November 3, again due to Champions League commitments.

Yet, from next season, there is expected to be eight late Saturday night kick offs to allow more television slots.

This not only helps to increase TV rights revenue for the Premier League – but also to challenge Saturday primetime shows like The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing.
