MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Joey Logano tapped Martin Truex Jr.’s bumper on the last lap at Martinsville Speedway, physically moved him out of the way and won the first race of the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs late last month.
The checkered flag automatically locked Logano into the championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, while Truex was furious and vowed to keep Logano from winning his first title. Now going into Sunday’s Cup Series finale, the Ford EcoBoost 400, Truex and Logano are two of the Championship 4 drivers, along with Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick.
It’s been suggested that perhaps Truex – the No. 78 Toyota driver and defending Cup Series champion – is racing too conservatively. But he knows exactly what he’d do should a reversed situation arise during the championship race.
“Depends on who’s in front of me,” Truex told For The Win on Thursday. But if it’s Logano? “Of course. An eye for an eye.”
