WWE Raw: Roman Reigns fights heel Braun Strowman at Hell in a Cell and Trish Stratus and the Bella Twins have returned

With so much action coming up, it was a chaotic Raw last night. Here are five things we learnt from the show.

Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman will meet at Hell in a Cell

Last week The Shield reunited to attack The Monster Among Men – a brutal beat-down that saw the trio power bomb Braun through the announce desk.

But things were more gentlemanly between Roman and Braun this week – to begin with, at least.

Braun announced he will cash-in inside Hell in a Cell – the one place where Roman’s Shield brothers can’t interfere. The pair then shook hands.

It goes to show how much WWE has overdone the Hell in a Cell match in recent years – there’s zero excitement for this announcement. It could be any other match.

Acting Raw GM Baron Corbin had a surprise for the two rivals – he forced them to team up later in the night against Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.

Trish Stratus is back

Elias cut one of his best heel promos so far, goading the Toronto fans with jibes about their city. He could barely keep the smirk off his face.

Hometown hero Trish Stratus came out and slapped Elias after he hilariously said: “Sorry, I don’t date women in their sixties.”

Trish was then joined by Ronda Rousey and Natalya.

They had a verbal showdown with Alexa Bliss – Trish’s opponent at the women’s only PPV – old rival Mickie James, and Alicia Fox.

Alexa revealed she will also invoke her title rematch against Ronda at Hell in a Cell (though not INSIDE the cage).

Following the war of words, Natalya beat Alicia Fox in a one-on-one match while the others stood at ringside.

It was a nice hometown reaction, but making Trish the focus of the Evolution PPV is a step back for the women’s division.

The Bellas return to action next week

Trish, Ronda, and Natalya bumped into the Bella twins backstage. They revealed that they are back in action against the Riott Squad on Raw next week.

WWE has also announced that the Bellas will team with Ronda at the Super Show-Down to face the Squad again.

Could this all be leading to a falling out between Ronda and Nikki Bella? There have been rumours circulating that Ronda will face Nikki at Evolution.

Not an exciting match on paper, but it just about makes sense if WWE wants as many eyeballs as possible on its historic show.

(Thanks to Total Bellas, Nikki is the next biggest mainstream star in WWE’s women’s division).

The five women then posed for selfies together. Can you imagine any of the male superstars  Doing that? WWE seriously needs some female writers on the creative team.

Kevin Owens has quit WWE

KO answered Seth Rollins’ open challenge for the Intercontinental Championship, leading to a blistering matchup between the familiar foes.

Rollins got the win with his curb stomp, which prompted the sullen Owens to sensationally quit WWE.

It’s pure storyline, of course (KO recently signed a new contract) but it’s the right thing for the Owens at the moment.

He’s been squashed by all the big players in recent months, and has found himself playing a comedy heel role.

Owens is good enough to take the losses, but he needs to take some time out and hit the reset button if he wants to get back in the main event picture.

Braun Strowman has… turned heel?

Last week it looked like The Shield had reformed as (sort of) heels, when they assaulted Braun – Raw’s number one babyface.

It was an unexpected twist that could have given the storyline depth and a fresh perspective for the “Hounds of Justice”. But this week WWE bottled it.

As Roman and Braun teamed up in the main event, Braun joined forces with opponents Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre and beat down Roman.

Both Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins charged down to make the save – and both were put down by the Braun, Dolph, and Drew trio.

Turning Braun heel to get babyface sympathy for Roman is tone deaf – the opposite of what the fans want to see.
