CC Sabathia’s best outing in more than a month has left him on the disabled list.
The Yankees placed Sabathia on the 10-day DL Monday with right knee inflammation, a day after the big left-hander threw six innings without allowing a run in a 7-2 win over the Rangers.
Sabathia has a history of right knee issues, including meniscus surgery in 2010 and a follow-up surgery after the 2016 season. His hip also forced him to miss time at the start of this season.
The Yankees called up reliever George Kontos to take his place on the roster. As part of the flurry of moves Monday, they also recalled infielder Ronald Torreyes, optioned Luke Voit to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre and moved left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery, who had Tommy John surgery in May, to the 60-day DL.
