6G AI phones to ‘rival human brains by 2036 and let cars see around corners’
Experts say 6G smartphones will rival human-level brain power by 2036, the Daily Star can reveal.
They predict AI supercomputers will use the futuristic tech to control everything from drones and self-driving cars.
6G could even allow phones to scan offices in real-time and let vehicles see through walls and around corners, according to a study.
This week we revealed a new "6G and beyond" microchip that can download hundreds of Netflix films in a second was ready to be mass-produced.
There are huge hopes for 5G mobile internet to revolutionise our lives by making virtually every electrical device connect to the internet.
But tech pioneers have already made predictions for what the even more powerful 6G tech will bring – including making the average smartphone 10,000 times faster.

Scientists reckoned the first devices using the next-generation wireless internet are a decade away from being developed.
They wrote "the increasing number of new applications such as virtual/augmented reality, autonomous driving, Internet of Things, and wireless backhaul (as a replacement for labour-intensive installation of optical fibre), as well as newer applications that have not been conceived yet, will need even greater data rates and less latency than what 5G networks will offer.

"Future 6G networks and wireless applications are probably a decade away from implementation, and are sure to benefit from operation in the 100 GHz to 1 THz frequency bands where even greater data rates will be possible."
The experts described 6G's potential for "incredibly accurate sensing, imaging, spectroscopy, and other applications".
They included more secure communications for the military – such as allowing designing new robots and drones to connect to AI supercomputers and advanced GPS-style tracking in real-time.
The scientists reckoned this mean sthe average smartphone could access computing power rivalling the human brain.

They wrote: "When one considers the growth of computational power provided by Moore’s law, it can be seen that the modest price of $1,000 (the cost of today’s smart phone) will likely be able to purchase a computer with computational capabilities that are on the order of the human brain by the year 2036.
"This observation stems from results in which extrapolate the increase in computational capabilities over time since 1965.
"The following analysis shows that Terahertz frequencies will likely be the first wireless spectrum that can provide the real time computations needed for wireless remoting of human cognition."

For comparison the best $1,000 computers can perform one trillion computations per second today – some 10,000 times slower than our brains.
"Today’s state-of-the art 1000 USD computer technology performs one trillion computations/sec, which is four orders of magnitude less than the speed of the human brain."
The paper outlining the future of mobile internet also described how 6G "beam" sensors will be "much finer" than previous mobile internet signals.

It stated: "Through beam scanning, it will become possible to create images of physical spaces, through the systematic monitoring of received signal signatures at a wide array of different angles.
"It shall be feasible to measure the properties of a room, an office, or a complex environment in a matter of seconds or less.
"This ability opens up a new dimension of wireless, that enables future wireless devices to do 'wireless reality sensing' and gather a map or view of any location, leading to detailed 3-D maps of the world created on the fly and uploaded/shared on the cloud by future devices."

The technology could even detect "certain materials and gasses… (and) the presence of certain items based on frequency scanning spectroscopy.
"The presence of certain chemicals or allergens in food or drink or air, or other defects in the world around us, may be sensed based on spectroscopy that could be enabled in smart phones for 6G and beyond."
They added current self-driving cars' light detection systems "cannot work when it is foggy, rainy or cloudy.
"However, mmWave and THz (6G) radar can be used for assisting driving or flying in foul weather, as well as in military and national security.
