Army private wanted to attack CNN with ‘large vehicle bomb,’ network reports
A US Army private charged Monday with distributing bomb-making information and seeking to join radical terror groups wanted to target CNN “with a large vehicle bomb,” the news network reported.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the Atlanta-based network was the bombing target referenced by soldier Jarrett William Smith, 24, in online chats on Facebook that were detailed in a federal complaint, the network reported.
Smith, who was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, was hit with federal charges Monday for repeatedly going into chat rooms, seeking to join radical terror groups and providing bomb-making information.
Among the targets Smith allegedly discussed were Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke and the headquarters of “a major American news network.”
The FBI redacted the name of the network in a seven-page complaint.
