BBC Weather forecaster Sarah Keith-Lucas has warned the more unsettled conditions are on the cards for England. Heavy rain and thunderstorms have brought the potential for locally intense rainfall, this has led the Environment Agency to announce flood warnings across London. Ms Keith-Lucas advised Briton that the torrential downpours also have the potential to cause travel disruption to journeys this weekend.

Ms Keith-Lucas told BBC Weather: “The heatwave is now behind us and we have a bit of a change to the theme of the weather over the next couple of days.

“More unsettled conditions on the cards.

“Really through the week ahead, we are looking at that gradual change to cooler conditions.

“Still some heavy showers around at times but also some spells of sunshine between as well.

“We have had some fairly heavy downpours over recent hours,” added the meteorologist.

“You can see on the satellite image this area of cloud which has been moving its way up from the south.

“It has produced already some heavy showers in the far south and some thunderstorms as well.

“And as we move through the course of the day do be prepared for more of those thunderstorms across parts of England, and particularly southeast England.”

BBC Weather: Europe set for storms and high temperatures

She continued: “If you do catch one there could some be localised flooding and the potential for some disruption to travel as well.

“So the zone likely to see the heaviest showers today is across parts of southeast England, East Anglia perhaps into the Midlands as well.

“Elsewhere across the UK there is a lot of dry settled weather and the cloud will be breaking up throughout the day so some long spells of sunshine.

“Not quite as warm as recent days but still temperatures in the northwest getting up to 25 possibly 26 degrees.”

Ms Keith-Lucas added: “If you have got these showers down towards the southeast though it is only going to be around 22 or 23 degrees.

“And again some quite torrential as we head into the evening hours.

“The odd rumble of thunder heading into the evening.

“But most of the showers tending to ease somewhat through the course of the night.”
