Belgium will be added to quarantine list tomorrow forcing tourists returning to isolate for 14 days
BELGIUM is expected to be added to the list of quarantine countries tomorrow – forcing tourists coming to the UK to isolate for 14 days.
It means anyone coming back from a holiday in the country will also have to stay home for two weeks or risk a £1000 fine.
The Department for Transport are finalising the announcement of the move, which is expected to come on Friday – and will likely come into effect at the weekend.
It comes after a huge spike in cases in the country, with 70,000 cases of the virus recorded this week.
The country is one of the worst affected as a proportion of the population – with some 9,800 fatalities.
Last week The Sun revealed Belgium and Luxembourg were to be added to the list of countries whose travellers are required to quarantine.
The move caused chaos when it was slapped on Spain last month with no notice.
At the end of July Belgium launched a fresh crackdown to stop the spread of the virus and prevent a return to a nationwide lockdown.
The PM announced that from 29 July onwards people would only be allowed to meet five other people at once – down from 15.
The move to put Belgium on the quarantine list could also impact Brexit talks.
Thousands travel every day on the Eurostar between Brussels and London.
Brexit talks are set to take place in person in Brussels between both sets of negotiators.
