Bicyclist dies one week after being struck by SUV in Aurora

Aurora police are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist and an SUV driver.

Police responded to a crash at 5:10 p.m. July 1 at East 16th Avenue and North Alton Street. While investigating, officers learned that a male bicyclist traveling north on North Alton Street failed to stop at a stop sign, police said, and was struck by an SUV headed west on East 16th Avenue.

The driver of the SUV, police said, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police said drugs, alcohol and speed were not believed to be contributing factors in the incident.

The bicyclist was transferred to an area hospital, and he died of his injuries on July 8.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the bicyclist’s name after positive identification has been made and his next-of-kin has been notified.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or may have footage or additional information about it is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
