Boss bans miserable diner who called his waitress a ‘brute of a lady’ in review
A diner has been banned from an entire chain of a UK restaurant over a "hurtful" online review about a waitress calling her "a brute of a lady."
After the horrible comments, a Manchester restauranteur barred the customer from all of his businesses.
Gary Usher was left "disgusted" by the insulting comments towards his staff member, reports Manchester Evening News.
The businessman, whose Elite Bistros group includes Hispi in Didsbury and Kala in Manchester city centre, said he would not tolerate comments like that.
The reviewer in question left a two-star review of Kala on the OpenTable website, in which he criticised the reduced menu, service, and venue in general.
He also described the waitress who served him on the night as 'brusque and unfriendly. A brute of a lady – disappointing indeed!'
In Gary's reply to the reviewer, he said that he would no longer be welcome in any of the six Elite Bistros restaurants unless he apologised.
Usher stressed the impact that comments like this can have on an individual's mental health.
The reviewer wrote: "[Food] was mediocre with superfluous saltiness instead of sheer inspired subtle combination of great flavour. Unimpressed. The post March lockdown lockdown menu is a shadow of the stupendously salivating previous one.

"Venue needs better aeration – walking outside immediately after leaving, was literally, a breath of fresh air.
"My partner and I alas won’t be returning. I hope they improve fast ."
In his reply, Usher wrote: "Why you think it's acceptable to direct such personal comments to anyone? It's 2020 Mate.
"Not only are your comments unpleasant, directed at someone simply trying to do their job, they are really hurtful.
"At a time when there's so much awareness of mental health, perhaps you should know better.
"I've taken it upon myself and apologised on your behalf. However I think it would be appropriate if you did the same.

"Until that happens you're not welcome in Elite Bistros."
Addressing the reviewer's other comments, Usher wrote: Usher added: "I'm not going to go into the detail of how much we are struggling with running a restaurant in a pandemic, or how operating at 50% capacity whilst adhering to all the new guidelines is nearly killing us. Plus you were there so you know how quiet we are.
"Neither am I going to defend our 'post lockdown lockdown menu' because it would be insulting to you to think you wouldn't understand why restaurants have had to strip back their menus to survive."
