A British father has been killed and his daughter is in hospital after they were mown down by car in Rome.

The ex-pat, 72, and his daughter, 52, were crossing the road after leaving the Circus Maximus, an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium, when tragedy struck.

Photos show a scene of devastation as well as a blanket draped over what is thought to be the body of the OAP who died at the scene.

The extent of the daughter’s injuries are not known, but she was able to communicate with police.

The incident – involving a Jeep – happened on Saturday night in Santa Maria in Cosmedin at around 7pm.
