Friends of a British man stabbed to death in Tenerife during a suspected violent burglary described him as "the funniest soul ever".

Andrew Walch, who was known to pals as Ed, was attacked on the Island Village complex on the Spanish island, near Playa de las Americas on Thursday, May 6.

His friends confirmed his death to Daily Star.

The 31-year-old's Facebook page, under the name Ed Walch, has been turned into a 'remembering' page, where those who knew him have been leaving tributes, describing him as a "one of a kind" character.

According to reports from Tenerife, Mr Walch, from Preston, Lancashire, tried to escape up a flight of steps leading to the street from his property, but was chased and attacked.

He collapsed inside the residential estate, with three people now under arrest.

The attack may have unfolded during a violent break-in, according to reports.

Mr Walch moved to Tenerife last year before the pandemic for a better life, and leaves behind a young daughter.

Paying tribute on Facebook, one friend said: “You always made me laugh, love to friends and family.”

Another posted: “The funniest soul ever, you will be missed – that's for sure.”

"One of the funniest kids I’ve ever met – RIP kid”, another tribute read.

Flowers have since been left at the scene of the tragedy.

A spokesman for National Police confirmed: “The dead man was a 31-year-old Brit.

“The death was a violent death and occurred at a property in the municipality of Adeje.

“There have been arrests. The matter is still under investigation and there is nothing more we can add at this stage although we may be able to say more later.”

Two men and a woman believed to have been held by police over the attack were taken to the area on Thursday by detectives who carried out a crime scene inspection.

Island paper El Dia said the trio were accompanied by their lawyers.

A Foreign Office spokesperson told the Daily Star: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Tenerife and are in contact with the local authorities. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”

In February, a middle-aged Russian man was stabbed to death in his home in the nearby area of Torviscas Alto.

No arrests have yet taken place.

The victim was described at the time as a man who was separated from his wife and lived between southern Tenerife and Russia.
