A man who called a radio station to say England’s World Cup team should lose because of its multiracial team was shut down by Mirror man Kevin Maguire.
‘Ian’ called into LBC on Saturday, ahead of England’s crunch quarter-final match against Sweden and was soon branded a racist by listeners.
He was moaning about Britain’s racially diverse society before stating the England football team ‘doesn’t represent him’.
He told the Daily Mirror’s Associate Editor Kevin Maguire, who was hosting the talk show, "In fact, it represents everything I’m against."
Shockingly the man said: "When you are talking about the subject of race, it goes a lot deeper than skin colour.
"If you turn the average black man instantly white, you’d still be able to recognise him as a black man.
"That’s about race, not colour."
But Kevin was not standing for the man’s rant.
"What’s wrong with you?" he asked.
"So do you want England to lose today?"
And after Ian replied yes, Kevin added: "What, because you’re so obsessed by race and your bigotry, and your prejudice is so poisonous you want England to lose?"
"I just hate seeing my country destroyed by multiracialism and anything that represents multiracialism," Ian replied.
Kevin gave Ian some advice before ending the conversation.
"I’d just go and make yourself a nice cup of tea, take it into a darkened room, get a bag of frozen peas from the freezer and put them on your head, and just reflect on what you’re saying."
The England team, who play in the World Cup semi-final tomorrow night against Croatia, have been widely praised.
The young squad led by Gareth Southgate is the most racially diverse team to ever play for the country at this level.
Eleven of the 23-man squad are black or mixed race and captain Harry Kane is of Irish descent.
Dele Alli, who was born in Milton Keynes to a Nigerian father and English mother, scored the second crucial goal on Saturday against Sweden, guaranteeing a place in the final four.
