Car plows into protesters and gunfire heard with at least five people injured

A car has driven into protesters and injured at least five people in Lebanon, according to reports.

The incident unfolded in Chouaifet al-Aamroussieh, south of the capital Beirut.

Footage posted from the scene shows a car with a smashed windscreen.

A fire was seen burning in the background while blue lights flashed.

The video also captured a crowd gathered around someone lying on the floor who appeared to be receiving medical treatment.

According to local reports, the security services arrested a driver suspected of running over a “number of protesters”.

The website IMLebanon reported that “more than seven people were wounded”.

Other footage from the scene shared on social media appeared to show a protester smashing the car, while fires continued to burn in the background.
