Coldstream Guards soldier found guilty of raping drunk young mother

Chilling moment Coldstream Guards soldier, 24, calmly strolled back to his barracks just 27 minutes after raping young mother in an alleyway next to Windsor Castle as he is found guilty of drink and drugs attack

  • EXCLUSIVE: Connor Brayley, 24, raped his victim near Windsor Castle
  • He was found guilty of two counts of rape which took place on December 14
  • Brayley had offered to walk her home as she was feeling unwell after night out
  • But when he got her to secluded place he ‘became aggressive’
  • He was arrested two hours later by undercover police officers

Dramatic CCTV footage captured the moment a disgraced Coldstream Guard returns to his barracks less than 30 minutes after raping a young mother in the shadows of Windsor Castle.

Connor Brayley, a guardsman, set upon his 23-year-old victim by a secluded park just 50 yards from the route taken by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding procession.

He was today found guilty of two counts of rape which took place on December 14 last year after he had drunk nine pints of beer and snorted cocaine.

In the security camera footage obtained by MailOnline, the 24-year-old is seen casually walking back to Victoria Barracks, close to the Queen’s Berkshire residence, at 3.47am – 27 minutes after he had been spotted emerging from the park with his victim.

The Coldstream Guards soldier allegedly raped his victim in the shadows of Windsor Castle after offering to walk her home because ‘she was not feeling well’

Wearing a brown t-shirt and jeans, he knocks on a side door by the barracks’ main gate with a large Army recruiting poster visible on the adjacent wall.

He waits for a little over 30 seconds before someone opens the door and lets him in.

Footage taken from the same camera at 5.39am shows two plain clothed police officers wander up to the door, press the doorbell and show their warrant cards before being allowed in.

Forty minutes later, the side door opens again and an armed soldier steps out to greet three more police officers before ushering them inside.

At 6.38am, just under three hours after he returned to the barracks, Brayley is seen being marched out by the two plain clothed officers.

The soldier was today convicted of targeting his 23-year-old victim as she walked home alone just after 2am on December 14 last year

He had left the barracks at 6pm the previous day to meet up with some friends in a pub in Windsor but decided to stay out on his own before returning back to base.

After the attack, he locked himself in his room and refused to talk to anyone but his victim managed to raise the alarm and Thames Valley Police quickly traced him back to the barracks.

Military colleagues told the MailOnline of their horror after Brayley, form Barnstaple in Devon was found guilty following a four day trial at Reading Crown Court.

One source said: ‘I think everyone within the battalion feels the same – absolutely disgusted.

‘A lot of us like myself are married with kids. My children like many others play in that park where he did it.

Brayley took his victim down two alleyways to an area known as Batchelor’s Acre, just 50 yards from the Royal Wedding procession route (pictured Harry and Meghan in that area)

But as the pair walked towards Bachelors Acre park through a dark alleyway, his mood changed and he dragged the woman into an alley to a bench where he raped her and threatening to kill her if she resisted

CCTV shows that for the 20 minutes before meeting the victim at 2am, the defendant had walked a circular loop by himself, along the alleyways to the spot at Bachelors Acre where the alleged offending against her was to take place

‘He was actually really quiet. It really surprised everyone when he admitted to doing such a horrible thing.’

Recalling Brayley’s movements, a source said: ‘He came back and as you see by the video he was in a rush to get in.

‘He went straight up to his room and locked the door behind him.’

Brayley, who studied at Pilton Community College, had only recently joined the Coldstream Guards as a Guardsman.

He met his victim outside McDonalds opposite Windsor Castle at 2am, apparently mistaking her initially for a friend of his back home.

They began talking and Brayley gave her his jacket and offered to walk her home.

He took her down two alleyways to an area known as Bachelors Acre, a small park in the town centre which he frequently used as it was the quickest way back to his barracks.

The court was told that he had been seen walking a circular loop of the alleyways by himself 20 minutes before meeting his victim.

A jury heard how Conor Brayley had drunk eight or nine pints and had also taken cocaine that night in December when he went out with other soldiers based at Windsor’s Victoria Barracks

Brayley said he has had a girlfriend for six years who he intends to marry but in the month before the rape, Brayley searched on Google for brothels and prostitutes local to the Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead areas and had been talking to other girls on the dating app, Tinder

Having walked her through the Royal Shopping Centre up to the first alleyway his mood darkened and nearby CCTV managed to capture him pinning her to the floor and forcing his crotch into her face.

After two minutes he pulled her to her feet and dragged her into the second alleyway to a seating area by Bachelors Acre where he threatened to kill her if she resisted.

Brayley then pulled off her dress and underwear and raped her.

The pair were seen leaving the park at 3.20am with him still gripping her arm. They stopped outside the Scotch Bar and the victim recognised a bouncer who had stepped out for a cigarette.

Mixed DNA of a male and female were found heavily on the bra and knickers and on the vaginal area of the alleged victim

The soldier said he has a girlfriend and he only uses Tinder for ‘banter with the lads’

She ran to him and was ushered inside while Brayley left to head back to his barracks.

In his police interview, Brayley denied he had raped the woman arguing he had a partner of over six years who he wanted to marry.

He blamed her for ‘trying things on’ accusing her of trying to fondle and kiss him as they sat on a bench after she had complained of feeling ill.

However, the jury was later told that in the month before the rape, Brayley had searched on Google for brothels and prostitutes local to the Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead areas and had been talking to other girls on the dating app, Tinder.

Brayley told the jury that he had consensual sex with the alleged victim for two minutes before he stopped and said he could not continue as he had a girlfriend

But after only two hours of deliberation a jury found him guilty on two charges of rape and one of sexual assault. They cleared him of a fourth charge of attempted rape

Forensic tests were also carried out on the woman’s underwear and DNA matching that of Brayley’s was found on the material.

Today, after only two hours of deliberation, a jury found him guilty on two charges of rape and one of sexual assault.

They cleared him of a fourth charge of attempted rape.

The disgraced soldier has been remanded in custody and he will be sentenced on July 6.

He showed no emotion as he was led away to the cells.
