David Beckham heaped with praise after heartwarming gesture at the royal wedding

David Beckham was heaped with praise on social media after stopping to shake the hand of a policeman outside the royal wedding .

The football icon, 43, greeted the bobby before entering St George’s chapel in Windsor.

He and wife Victoria were among 600 guests who turned out to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take their vows and exchange rings.

Many people on social media said Becks’ act of kindness towards the officer showed his true character.

One woman said the act helped show police officers across the country their hard work did not go unnoticed.

Southwestdee17 said on Instagram: "David Beckham, you absolute #legend! This may have just been a handshake and a ‘thank you’ to the police officer on your part, but it meant so much more to police officers all over the country.

"It hadn’t gone unnoticed. Thank you!"

Tracey Enn said on Twitter: "The best part of the pre wedding coverage was David Beckham shaking the policeman’s hand when entering the Church. What a guy."

@AdamKechill added: "You gotta love David Beckham – he paused as he entered the chapel for the #royalwedding to shake hands with the policeman."

@youthfulmnds said: "David Beckham shaking hands with the policeman, wow we love a respectful man."

And @stephos1 said: "David Beckham is just so sweet, shaking hands with the policeman, the only one who acknowledged him."

Becks was also praised yesterday for hugging a victim of the Manchester Arena terror attack outside the church.

Amelia Mae Thompson, 12, was hugged by the Manchester United legend after he walked over to pose for a picture with her.

An estimated 100,000 people turned out to see Meghan and Harry as they sat in an open-top Ascot Landau for a carriage procession through Windsor.

The celebrations culminated in a black-tie wedding dinner staged at Frogmore House and hosted by Charles for 200 of the couple’s closest friends and family.

In a touching gesture, thoughtful Harry gave his wife a poignant wedding-day gift – an emerald-cut aquamarine ring which belonged to his late, beloved mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
