A Colombian drug lord completely reconstructed his face while on the run in a failed bid to avoid getting caught.
Former North Valley Cartel leader Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia, who was an associate of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, changed his jawbone, cheekbones, eyes, mouth, ears and nose.
The former cocaine kingpin appeared in court with a widened jaw, defined chin and slimmed down nose.
His skin looked a different colour and his ears appeared pulled back.
Abadia – also known as ‘Chupeta’ or ‘lollipop’ – told a trial he hid out in an extravagant mansion in Brazil while he underwent the surgery.
He claims he operated his drug empire from afar, only leaving his lavish hideout to go under the knife or enjoy a midnight bikeride.
He told a jury at El Chapo’s US trial that he used the drug lord’s Mexican cartel to help smuggle tons of Colombian cocaine into large US cities.
Abadia was arrested in Brazil in 2007 when his voice was picked up by a phone tap and identified by police.
He was sent to the United States, where he pleaded guilty to drug and murder charges and became a co-operator.
Abadia is estimated to have ordered at least 150 killings while leading the Norte de Valle cartel.
Guzman, also known as El Chapo, has pleaded not guilty in New York to drug-trafficking charges.
He claims he is being framed.
