Family cheer as gang-rapists who killed university student jailed for life

Poignant footage captures the grieving family and friends of a murdered student cheer in the public gallery as her killer was jailed for life today.

Hannah Cornelius, 21, was abducted and raped by Eben van Niekerk, Geraldo Parsons and Vernon Witbooi.

The thugs stabbed the uni student in the neck, crushed her skull with a large rock and left her body in the middle of a road in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

But after they were jailed for life at Western Cape Court today , Hannah’s heartbroken family were seen cheering and taunting the murderers as they were led out of court.

Sentencing, Judge Rosheni Allie called the rape and murder the "crudest and cruellest form of violence".

Van Niekerk, 28, Parsons, 27, and Witbooi, 33, were found guilty of robbery, kidnap, rape and murder.

A fourth defendant, Nashville Julius, 29, was found guilty of robbery and kidnap.

The court had heard how the heartless yobs battered her friend, Cheslin Marsh, with bricks and left him for dead.

Mr Marsh has been left partially deaf , it last week emerged.

Hannah’s death preceded a series of tragedies for her family. Both her mother and her grandmother died within 10 months of her murder.

Julius was jailed for 15 years for robbing Hannah and Cheslin, and seven years for their kidnapping. His sentences will run concurrently.
