Fears missing 12-year-old girl may have been abducted by sex offender stepdad

Police fear a missing 12-year-old girl may have been abducted by her stepdad who is a registered sex offender.

Raeanna Rosencrans was last seen getting into a green car after stepping off a school bus in Grand Junction, Colorado.

According to witnesses, she got in the car "willingly" at around 3pm on Wednesday.

At 5.30pm, police issued an image of Raeanna and said she’d been reported missing.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that Jody Haskin is a "person of interest" in the case.

The 47-year-old is Raeanna’s stepdad but has no parental rights and is a convicted sex offender.

He was later updated to "prime suspect" status.

Reanna is described as "developmentally delayed, but high functioning" and she requires medication.

Police in Colorado said in a statement: "There is no doubt that a case like this is incredibly alarming and frightening to everyone involved, as well as the community affected by the incident.

"We are committed to following up on every lead in our efforts to bring Raeanna safely home.

"Investigation thus far indicates this is not a case of stranger abduction.

"As with any complex and ongoing case like this one, there will be details that we can’t share, as it’s imperative to protect the integrity of the investigation."
