Four men killed in a horror road crash in Co Donegal have been named

The four young men killed in a horror car crash in Co Donegal have been named.

John Harley and Mícheál Roarty, both aged 24, Sean Harkin, 22, and Daniel Scott, in his 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash before 9pm on Sunday.

Gardai are investigating the cause of the accident.

A source said: "Four young people have died as a result of the crash. There was only one car involved.

"It’s a devastating scene. All four lads are from the locality and would be well-known in the area."

Local priest Fr Brian O’Fearraigh attended the scene after receiving a call at around 9pm informing him of a horror car crash.

He said: "It was the stuff of nightmares. I knew then that down in that valley that tragedy had struck’."

The priest, who is the school chaplain at Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, said the school came together on Monday morning in prayer as one of the crash victims was a past pupil of the school.

Fr O’Fearraigh told Sean O’Rourke on RTE Radio One: "A tragedy like this, words fall silent. It’s a terrible tragedy.

"Four young men from two communities… plunged into the depths of grief and mourning after this, the most tragic of events. Shocking."

The road was closed on Monday morning to facilitate a garda forensic examination. Gardai investigating the devastating crash have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
